About Me
The Character: Audrae, Elemental Shaman
I’ve always tended towards the caster classes in my gaming experience. Ever since I was a child, I would imagine being able to perform magic of various forms and it would always make my playtimes rich and adventurous. There was always something alluring to being able to do that which was not physically possible.
As far as video games went, the caster class generally tended to embody my intended participation in the game. Most of the time the caster archetype fit a female player who was able to solve problems and conflicts without the use of fists (which always seemed brutal and primitive to me). The caster was able to gently, yet powerfully, influence the world aroudn them. This mentality is certainly evident in my preference of characters over the years: Summoners/Healers in the FF series, a High Wizard and Sage in Ragnarok online, and now an Elemental Shaman in WoW. I generally enjoy being able to stand back and cause untold mayhem from a distance >:3
The Person: Rae Melton
So if you’ve ever seen a list of my characters, you can probably determine what my naming convention is (Audrae, Illumerae, Astraelle, Wynrae, Xeraes, Allandrae, etc). My first name is actually Amber, but after a rather tormented childhood I decided to start going by my middle name in an effort to reset my position in life. To the 10 year old back then, it seemed like a good plan >.>” I managed to escape the people and envinronment that had set fire to my tender heart and demeanor, and somehow made it through middle school in one piece. Then I continued on to high school and college and “Rae” became my self-image. I have yet to physically meet another Rae o.O so I take much pride in my uniqueness.
Currently I’m working towards completing my double major in Math and Computer Science at Harding University. I took some time off to pursue a position in the University’s ITS department where I developed database applications for the registrar (that’s my fancy language for wrote reports and concocted PL/SQL packages). The experience was definitely that—an experience. I learned so much the first 6 months my head nearly exploded, and then I entered about a year and a half of dull information drilling. After about a year of almost complete dissastifaction with my position, I made the decision to go back to school and finish my degree in hopes of moving onto grad school.
I’m not really sure what I’m going to do when I graduate from Harding, but I’m pretty sure it will involve something exciting :)
As you’ve read, I enjoy playing video games a lot. I do have other interests, contrary to popular belief. At one point I was really into paper crafts and amassed a scrapbooking arsenal that might have put Martha Stewart to shame. I also enjoy working on Math problems. Over the past two years I have been working on and off on a unique method for proving the countability of the rational numbers o.o Hopefully when I go back to school I will have more incentive and time to complete my write up of it.
